Richard Watkins Named Troy Cheer Coach

TROY, Alabama – Richard Watkins has been named Troy University's cheerleading head coach, Director of Athletics Jeremy McClain announced Monday. Watkins joins the Troy staff after serving as the assistant cheerleading coach at Limestone College and the All Star Director at Rock Star Cheer.
"I'm very excited to be here at Troy University," Watkins said. "It's been a dream of mine to coach in college athletics ever since I started my cheerleading career, and for me to be here coaching this talented group of athletes at the Division I level, is honestly a dream come true and a blessing."
Watkins has assisted the Troy cheerleading program for the past year with skills, gameday routines and with its preparations for the UCA College Nationals.
He was a three-time UCA College National Champion at West Georgia (2011, 2014, 2015) and was named the USASF Coach of the Month during his tenure as the Cheerleading and Tumbling Coach at Ace All Stars in Birmingham and Atlanta.
Following his five-plus years at Ace All Stars, Watkins served as the All Star Director, Gym Director and Tumbling Instructor at Pro Cheer All Stars in Carrollton, Georgia.
Watkins, a 2015 graduate in sport management from West Georgia, is USASF certified in levels one through five.
