RALEIGH โ North Carolina State rushed for five touchdowns en route to a 49-21 victory over Troy to spoil Neal Brown's debut as the Trojans' head coach.

Jaylen Samuels rushed for three scores and Matt Dayes added a pair of touchdowns for the Wolfpack (1-0), while Brandon Burks and Jordan Chunn each found the end zone on the ground for the Trojans (0-1).

Burks finished the night with 124-rushing yards on 14 carries for his sixth career 100-yard rushing game, which ties him for eighth all-time in Troy history. Chunn's touchdown was the 21stย of his career, the sixth best in Troy history.

NC State built a 21-7 lead on a pair of touchdowns from Samuels and one from Dayes around Chunn's 1-yard score. Chunn's score was set up by a 33-yard strike from Brandon Silvers to Bryan Holmes.

Silvers finished the game 12-for-16 for 149 yards, while Holmes had four catches for 84 yards and a touchdown. Silvers did not throw an interception in the game, but NC State picked off Dallas Tidwell in the fourth quarter, which ended Troy's streak of consecutive passes without an interception at 153 attempts.

The Trojans pulled to within 28-14 at the half thanks to some late heroics from Burks and Holmes. Troy took over on its own 18-yard line with 21 seconds to play before the half. Burks took the first play of the drive 30 yards and a facemask penalty moved to the ball to the NC State 37-yard line. Silvers found Holmes on a back-shoulder throw at the goal line with one second remaining in the half for a touchdown.

Following a pair of three-and-outs to open the second half, Dayes broke off a 30-yard run to push the Wolfpack lead out to 35-14. However, the Trojans responded 31 seconds later as Burks went around right end for a 57-yard touchdown. The run was the longest of his career and pushed the senior over the 100-yard mark for the day.

The Wolfpack set the final score on a 3-yard run by Samuels late in the third quarter and a 1-yard pass from Jacoby Brissett to NaQuan Brown early in the fourth quarter. Brissett finished the game 21-of-23 for 196 yards and a pair of touchdowns

Junior linebacker William Lloyd finished with a game-high 15 tackles for the Trojans, which is tied for the seventh most in a game in school history. Tyler Roberts added seven tackles, a pair of stops behind the line and a sack, while Jamal Stadom had seven tackles and a sack.

Troy's home opener is set for next Saturday as Charleston Southern comes to town. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium and the game will be televised by ESPN3.
