Mullins & Affeldt Claim Top Sun Belt Honors

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Troy senior Jaycee Affeldt was named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year and Beth Mullins was named the Sun Belt Co-Coach of the Year, the league announced Tuesday night at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Family Night.

Additionally, Affeldt was named to the All-Sun Belt First Team and Becca Hartley was named to All-Sun Belt Conference Second Team as an outfielder.

Affeldt, who is the first Trojan to earn Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year honors, has a 2.51 ERA – fifth best in the league – and 17 wins – second best in the league. She has made 42 appearances this season and has pitched 178.1 innings; both are the second most in the Sun Belt. Affeldt, who has struck out 145 batters this season, struck out a career-high 14 batters against Georgia Tech on March 31.

Mullins has led the Trojans to 32 wins in her first year as Troy's head coach. She is the first coach in program history to defeat top-10 teams in back-to-back games and has led the Trojans to the most wins over the past five seasons, including victories over three top-25 opponents.

Hartley is batting .289 with a team-high 10 home runs, along with 34 RBIs and a .539 slugging percentage; her 10 homers are tied for the sixth most in a season in Troy history. Hartley, who opened the season reaching base in 27 straight games, has stolen seven bases on eight attempts and has drawn 22 walks.

The Trojans will open play on Wednesday at 3 p.m. when they take on the winner of Georgia State or Georgia Southern at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
