Troy Travels to Stetson Invitational

TROY, Alabama - The Troy softball team travels to DeLand, Fla., to begin play in the Stetson Invitational on Friday. The Trojans will play Alabama State and Colgate back-to-back on Friday with the first game to begin at 10 a.m. and the second game set to begin at 12:30 p.m. Troy will face Colgate and Stetson on Saturday, with the first beginning at 10 a.m. and the second starting at 3 p.m.

Troy (9-7) hits the road with a four-game win streak and wins in six of its last seven games.

Hannah Day and Michelle Phelps lead the Trojans with a .391 batting average and a combined six home runs and 32 RBIs. All three of Hannah Day's home runs came on Tuesday's doubleheader at Alabama State.

Jaycee Affeldt (5-2) leads Troy's pitching staff with 31 strikeouts in 36.1 innings of work. Ashley Rainey (4-1) has struck out 14 batters in 33.2 innings this season and has a team-low 2.91 ERA.

The Trojans and Hornets (3-11) faced each other earlier in the week on Tuesday night, with Troy winning both games. The first game ended in five innings, 14-2, and the second one ended in six innings by a 10-2 score. Troy leads the all-time series with Alabama State 20-0.

Colgate will open its season with the game against Troy on Friday. The Raiders were scheduled to play in the Hyatt Place Challenge hosted by North Carolina State last weekend, but it was cancelled due to inclement weater. Colgate went 13-30 last season and finished with a 5-13 in the Patriot League. Troy and Colgate have never met on the diamond.

Stetson (7-3) has wins over Morehead State, Akron, Rhode Island and Morgan State on the young season, while the three losses have come from Michigan State and two to Minnesota. Stetson leads the series with Troy 10-6. The last two times these two met was in 2005 with Troy winning 3-0.
