Dothan Civic Center l Schedule
DOTHAN, Alabama - Troy Athletics Director John Hartwell and men's head basketball coach Phil Cunningham visited the Dothan City Commission meeting Tuesday morning to discuss the basketball program's visit to the Dothan Civic Center on December 11, at 7 p.m., against Fort Valley State.
Â
Hartwell and Cunningham both addressed the city commissioners about their excitement in bringing Troy athletics to the city of Dothan.
Â
"The wiregrass area is a corner stone in our alumni and certainly our athletic supporters," said Hartwell. "You can look at the demographics of our season ticketholders in football, basketball and baseball and there is a very high percentage in the Dothan area. The folks in the Dothan area do a great job of coming up to events in Troy, but we thought it would be a win-win situation for Troy athletics and Troy basketball, as well as the Dothan community to bring a game to the area. We're trying to generate crowds and interest and it made all of the sense in the world bringing a game here (Dothan)."
Â
Cunningham added, "We want to grow our fan base and we think Dothan is an area that we can do that in. I know John (Hartwell) feels the same way. What we want to do is to bring our product to Dothan. It's a great chance for us to get down here in December. We think we have a chance to have a great crowd. It all started at the Trojan Tour. Our best reception and excitement came at the stops in Dothan. To me, it's a no brainer. We have a great facility (the Civic Center) here and we're excited to get down here to play a game."
Â
Tickets for the game will go on sale to the public on October 20, at 8:30 a.m. and will be available at the Dothan Civic Center Box Office or online at their website, www.dothanciviccenter.org, etix.com, or by calling (334) 615-3175. The Dothan Civic Center and Opera House box office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Â
A special pre-sale for ticket packages will be available through the Troy Alumni Association.
Â
Tailgating for the event will be in the parking lot on the south side of the Civic Center.Â
