Pitts’ Two Home Runs Lead Troy Past Central Michigan

TROY, Ala. – Garrett Pitts gave Troy a 5-4 walk-off win with a solo home run in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against Central Michigan at Riddle-Pace Field. The homer, which came on the second pitch he saw from CMU reliever Kenton San Miguel, was the senior's second of the game. Pitts launched a three-run blast in the fifth inning.
The Troy second baseman also singled in the first inning and finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
The Trojans (4-3) fell behind in the fourth after Central Michigan's Adam Collins hit a three-run home run off Troy starter Will Starling. That would be all the damage CMU could manage, however, as Starling went five innings allowing just the three runs on seven hits.
Troy would take the lead in the fifth after Pitts tied the game with his three-run shot. Trevin Hall later reached on a CMU throwing error and scored the go-ahead run on a Jo-EL Bennett single.
The Chippewas (2-5) tied the game on a past ball with two outs in the eighth.
Freshman Marc Skinner (1-0) entered the game on the mound in the eighth and worked out of a couple of jams to earn his first college win; he would strand the bases loaded in the eighth and two more runners in the ninth.
Trevin Hall and Clay Holcomb had hits for the Trojans as well.
Troy and Central Michigan will face off on Sunday in the series finale at 11 a.m.
Central Michigan 3, Troy 2 (Game 1)
The Trojans left 12 runners on base while Shane McCain (1-1) surrendered three runs – two earned – on just three hits and was saddled with the loss. He would finish the game with 10 strikeouts.
Jo-El Bennett and Jake Harrell would come away with two hits each as Nick Masonia chipped in with an RBI single.
Ben Tidwell pitched three fantastic innings of relief for Troy striking out four.
