TROY, Ala. – The Troy softball team travels to Tallahassee, Fla., to face no. 24 Florida State, Tuesday night, with the game set to be broadcasted on ESPN3/WatchESPN starting at 6 p.m.
The Trojans (2-2) started off the 2013 season with a win against Georgia State on Friday morning, before falling to host Mississippi State in the nightcap. After falling to SIU-Edwardsville in Saturday's first game, Troy rebounded and rallied for a 7-3 win over Tennessee State to wrap up the Bulldog Classic.
At the plate, senior Hannah Renn finished 6-for-13 (.462) with a home run, two doubles and three RBIs. Freshman third baseman Chandler Griffin drove in five runs at the Bulldog Kickoff Classic, while freshman designated player Brittany Russ picked up three hits and an RBI in Troy's finale versus Tennessee State. Renn and junior Kacie McAllister, who added four hits, were named to the all-tournament team for their performances.
Freshman pitcher Rachel Rigney emerged in the circle as the Alabaster, Ala., native threw 13.2 innings over the weekend and picked her first career save against Georgia State and her first win with a complete game performance against Tennessee State.
Florida State (4-0) picked up four wins as the Seminoles hosted the Panhandlie Invitational this past weekend at JoAnne Graf Field.
The Seminoles are led by Briana Hamilton, who smashed two home runs and drove in five runs last weekend. After the first weekend of play, the Seminoles are hitting a combined .406 with 31 runs scored through four games played.
The Seminoles pitching staff did not allow an earned run during last weekend's Panhandle Invitational and allowed just one run in a 3-1 win over North Florida.
The Trojans defeated a 22nd-ranked Florida State team 4-3 last season after rallying from a three-run deficit, however the Seminoles lead the all-time series by a 22-11-1 margin; the Trojans are looking to pick up their first win at Florida State since 2006.
