Rainey Named Co-Pitcher of the Week, Picks Up Third Sun Belt Honor

NEW ORLEANS, La. – For the third time this season, freshman Ashley Rainey has been named Sun Belt Co-Pitcher of the Week by the conference, sharing the honor with FIU pitcher Mariah Dawson.
Rainey turned in complete-game performances in both of Troy's wins over no. 21 Auburn and no.8 Louisiana-Lafayette.
In Troy's win over the No. 21 Auburn Tigers, Rainey allowed just one run in the complete game win, as the freshman allowed just four hits and struck out two.
In the first game of the series against No. 8 Louisiana-Lafayette, Rainey picked up her seventh complete game of the season and her tenth win, as the Tuscaloosa, Ala., native allowed four runs on eight hits, while striking out two and walking none.
At the plate, the freshman added two hits during the week. Rainey's two wins gave Troy its first two wins over ranked opponents this season.
Before this honor, Rainey was selected Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week on February 13 and March 5. The freshman has been named Sun Belt Pitcher, three times, the most by any pitcher in the conference.
The Troy softball team returns to action against the in-state rival, South Alabama, Wednesday, March 28, at 5:00 p.m. for midweek conference showdown.
Troy caps off the season-long eight game homestand with the FIU Golden Panthers, this weekend, with Saturday's doubleheader set to start at 1:00 p.m. Admission to all Troy softball games is free.
