Troy Baseball & Softball Fan Appreciation Day Set for Feb. 5
1/27/2012 9:05:00 AM | Softball
TROY, Ala. – Troy will open the gates of Riddle-Pace Field on Sunday, Feb.5, for Baseball & Softball Fan Appreciation Day beginning at 2 p.m.
Baseball head coach Bobby Pierce and softball head coach Melanie Davis will introduce their teams to the fans, the Trojan Warrior Council will provide free hot dogs and drinks, and fans can pick up their free official baseball and softball schedule posters at the event. Both the baseball and softball teams will also be signing autographs.
“We started this for the first time last year and the response was overwhelming,” Pierce said. “This is an event that our players and coaches really enjoy. We have some of the best fans in the nation and they truly make a difference when we play at home.”
The baseball team won the 2011 Sun Belt Conference championship and advanced to the NCAA Regionals for the third time in the past six years. A large part of Troy's success came from its 30-5 record at Riddle-Pace Field in front of some of the top crowds in the facility's history – six of the top 25 crowds at Riddle-Pace Field came last season.
The Trojan softball team returns a wealth of talent from a squad that finished 32-27 last season. Davis was recently inducted into the Alabama Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame and freshman pitcher Jaycee Affeldt was selected as a finalist to be named to the Canadian National Team.
Softball opens the season at the Southeastern Louisiana Lion Classic in Hammond, La., on Feb. 10 before hosting the Quality Inn Classic on Feb. 17-22 at the Troy Softball Complex. The Trojan baseball team opens play with a four-game series against Central Michigan at Riddle-Pace Field beginning Feb. 17.
Baseball season tickets are available for purchase by contacting the Troy ticket office at 1-877-878-WINS or by visiting the ticket office in person at Tine Davis Fieldhouse.
