The Troy University softball team is continuing to be well represented across North American. This time, it is incoming freshman Jaycee Affeldt who is representing the Trojans.
Affeldt, a Maple Ridge, British Columbia native, is one of 23 athletes competing for 17 spots on the Canadian Junior Women's National Team. The right-handed pitcher has been attending selection camps all summer, including the Scotiabank Canadian Open back in mid-July.
Affeldt was one of 19 who made the Canada National Youth Team that competed at the week-long tournament in Vancouver. Current Trojans Sarah Harris and Nikki Hollett also competed in the Canadian Open, however in a different division. Affeldt's Canada National Youth Team posted a 12-2 record and finished with a silver medal at the event.
Next week, Affeldt and her squad of 23 will compete at the Canadian National Championships, which marks the final selection event. After the tournament, the team will be cut to 17 athletes who will make up the 2011 Canadian Junior Women's National Team.
The team will take part in the 2011 ISF Junior Women's World Championships, which take place in Cape Town, South Africa, in December.
Affeldt will join a Troy team looking to build on the 2011 campaign which saw the Trojans post a 32-27 record. She will play a major role in replacing record-setting pitcher Ashlyn Williams in 2012.
