Junior shortstop earns honor after four-game stretch this week
LAFAYETTE, La. (TroyTrojans.com) - Following the conclusion of the Sun Belt Conference Softball Championship game on Saturday afternoon, the All-Tournament was announced which was voted on by the head coaches following the conclusion of each game.
TROY shortstop Nikki Hollett earned the honor for the Trojans this season after her performance in four games. For the tournament, Hollett went 5-for-14; hitting .357. She connected on three extra-base hits, scored a run and drove in a pair during the four-game stretch over three days for the Trojans.
In the opening game of the tournament, Hollett went 2-for-4 with a stolen base against FIU; before following that up with a two-home run against Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday in the nightcap. The home run was the 20th of the season for Hollett, making her the third player in the Sun Belt Conference to do so this season, and the sixth different player in the conference to do so in its history; the first non Louisiana-Lafayette player on the list.
On the final day, Hollett picked one of the Trojans' four hits as she doubled off the wall on a pitch from Florida Atlantic starter Rose Gressley. She also connected on her 17th double earlier in the day off of WKU starter Mallorie Sulaskie.
