Williams and Gann Receive Honor

LAFAYETTE, La. (TroyTrojans.com) - The Sun Belt Conference announced the 2011 Sun Belt Conference All-Conference Teams on Tuesday night at Lamson Park, and a pair of Trojans were named to the Second Team.

Senior Ashlyn Williams was named one of two pitchers to the Second Team as she has posted a 17-13 record, but has won nine of her last 11 contests on the mound. The senior leads the conference in strikeouts this season, and is climbing the list in career strikeouts in the NCAA. She currently stands at 18th with 1,279 strikeouts; one shy of third all-time in Sun Belt Conference.

Junior Hayden Gann was named Second Team Designated Player after missing time at first base due to a shoulder injury. The junior is third on the team in batting average, and second in home runs and runs batted in. Gann is listed among the conference leaders in hits and home runs this season.

The following is a breakdown of the All-Conference teams released by the conference office on a vote by the league's head coaches: First Team - Ashley Brignac (Louisiana-Lafayette, Junior, Pitcher); Rose Gressley (Florida Atlantic, Senior, Pitcher); Karavin Dew (Western Kentucky, Sophomore, Catcher); Gabriele Bridges (Louisiana-Lafayette, Senior, First Base); Heather Barnes (Florida Atlantic, Junior, Second Base); Kayla Burri (FIU, Sophomore, Shortstop); Jessy Alfonso (FIU, Sophomore, Third Base); Ashley McClain (FIU, Junior, Outfield); Christi Orgeron (Louisiana-Lafayette, Junior, Outfield); Brianna Love (Louisiana-Monroe, Senior, Outfield); Corrie Abel (Middle Tennessee, Senior, Designated Player).

The Second Team consisted of: Hannah Campbell (South Alabama, Freshman, Pitcher); Ashlyn Williams (Troy, Senior, Pitcher); Sarah Draheim (Louisiana-Lafayette, Sophomore, Catcher); Mallory Cantler (North Texas, Senior, First Base); Haley Richards (South Alabama, Freshman, Second Base); Nerissa Myers (Louisiana-Lafayette, Sophomore, Shortstop); Brooke Foster (North Texas, Freshman, Third Base); Jessica Olguin (Louisiana-Monroe, Senior, Outfield); Brittany Fowler (South Alabama, Sophomore, Outfield); Haley Hopkins (South Alabama, Junior, Outfield); Hayden Gann (Troy, Junior, Designated Player).

The Trojans hit the field for the first time in the Sun Belt Conference Softball Championships on Wednesday afternoon as the fifth seed in the tournament. They will face fourth-seeded FIU at 3 pm inside Lamson Park.
