STARKVILLE, Miss. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced on Friday its 2011 All-America Scholar Athletes. The Troy University softball team was well represented as nine student-athletes grabbed the academic honor.
Each year the NFCA awards student-athletes who achieved a 3.50 GPA or higher with All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
Ashley Adkins, Kortney Cooper, Hayden Gann, Lauren Griffith, Michelle Hewitt, Haley Hutchins, Kelly Luquette, Kacie McAllister and Melissa Pratt all earned 3.50 GPAs for Troy in the 2010-11 academic year.
The nine honorees are the most by any Sun Belt school as the Trojans posted a 3.512 GPA as a team last year. The Trojans as a team posted the seventh best Division I GPA in the nation last season.
The Trojans, who are in the midst of their fall season, have four more games left on their 2011 exhibition state, including a home game against Central Alabama on Wednesday, October 12 at 6:00 p.m.
