Trojan Softball Returns To Action Wednesday Night

The Troy University softball team hits the field again tonight in their third contest of the fall, taking on Central Alabama Community College at 6 pm at the Troy Softball Complex.

The Trojans are coming off a pair of victories just five days ago, as they defeated Gulf Coast Community College and Jeff State Community College behind stellar pitching performances from a trio of players.

Ashlyn Williams picked up the victory in the opening game of the fall, going seven innings and allowing just two runs off of three hits against Gulf Coast. The senior struck out 10 batters on the day, including recording seven of the last nine outs of the contest. Meanwhile, in the nightcap last Friday, a pair of pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout of Jeff State. Haley Hutchins went four innings, allowing just three hits while striking out seven, while Morgan Grove recorded the save with three innings of one-hit ball – striking out four along the way.

At the plate, the Trojans put together 13 hits in the two games, including eight in the opening contest against Gulf Coast. Freshman Taylor Smartt, Sarah Harris and Grove all picked up a pair of hits in the opener; with the big blow coming off a squeeze from Kortney Cooper in the sixth inning that proved to be the difference.

In the nightcap, All-Sun Belt selection Nikki Hollett was the lone player to pick up multiple hits against Jeff State. She went 2-for-3 with a run scored, a run batted in and two doubles in the contest.
