Troy Volleyball Earns First Conference Victory

The Trojan Volleyball team earned their first conference victory of the season by defeating the WarHawks of ULM 3-0

MONROE, La.- The Troy Trojans volleyball team earned thier first conference victory of the season Saturday afternoon by defeating ULM 3-0 (25-14, 28-26, 25-14).

The Trojans were led on the afternoon by senior Megan Henderson, who recorded eight kills, a .533 attack percentage, 35 assists, and 14 digs. Junior Natasha Kolunija recorded a career-high 16 kills and had a .500 attack percentage on the afternoon.

Troy took an early lead in the first set with kills from Henderson and senior Victoria Rogoschewsky. ULM was able to come within three points of the Trojans, but the Warhawks efforts were not enough, Troy held the lead for the whole set and kills from Henderson and junior Brittany McClelland insured the set victory.

The second set saw a tight battle with the Warhawks and the Trojans. Troy took an early lead with kills from Koluinja and sophomore Devin Von Pingel. The Warhawks were not going down without a fight in the set and formed a rally to tie the set at 24-all. A trio of kills from Kolunija put the stop to any ULM hope gaining the 28-26 set victory for Troy.

The Trojans came out of intermission with the fire they had in the first set. Kills from Kolunija and Von Pingel took Troy to an early 6-3 lead. Kills from McClelland, Henderson and Rogoschewsky took the Trojans on a rolling lead. ULM was able to come back to within four of Troy at 16-12, but once again Kolunija put an end to any Warhawk hope of a set victory by recording six kills to send the Trojans to victory.

Troy will return to action Tuesday night at 6 p.m. when they face Georgia State in Troy at Sartain Hall. Admission is free and everyone is encouraged to attend.
