2011 Softball Schedule
The Troy University softball team will see different parts of the country this season as the 2011 schedule was released Wednesday afternoon, highlighted by a home tournament the second weekend of the season.
Although the Trojans will travel the country, the opening two weekends take place in the state of Alabama and feature in-state and quality out-of-state competition.
Troy and five other teams from the state of Alabama will hit the field February 11 through 13 at Liberty Park in Birmingham to take part in the All-Alabama Classic. The Trojans start the year with a doubleheader against Alabama State and Jacksonville State on Friday, before taking on Auburn and host UAB on Saturday, and national power Alabama on Sunday.
Following the opening weekend, the Trojans return home for their own tournament – the Quality Inn Classic to take place over a three-day span. The Trojans will face in-state foe Samford twice during the tournament, but will also play Central Arkansas, Bradley and North Florida over the course of three days; ending February 20.
The Trojans will not return home following the final game of the Quality Inn Classic for 27 days, hitting the road to Mississippi, Nevada and California. Over the span of 27 days, the Trojans will hit the field at Southern Miss, UNLV, Cal-State Fullerton and Fresno State.
Head coach Melanie Davis and the Trojans travel to Southern Miss the week of February 25-27 to take on Evansville, Mississippi Valley State, Nicholls State and the host Golden Eagles. After taking a few days to rest, the Trojans head east to Las Vegas to take part in the Ellar Media Classic – a tournament that features the likes of Bradley, Kansas, San Jose State, UC Davis and UNLV.
After playing in the UNLV Tournament, the Trojans venture out of tournament play for a pair of mid-week games against Penn and Cal-State Fullerton on the Titan's campus, before taking part in the Baylor CropScience Classic the weekend of March 10-13. The tournament at Fresno State features the likes of Bradley, California, Drake, Fresno State and Idaho State.
Once the Trojans finish their game against Idaho State on March 13, they will return to familiar ground returning to Alabama and preparing for conference play.
The Trojans open conference play on March 19 against ULM at home, playing 17 of their final 30 games at the Troy Softball Complex. The team plays non-conference foes UAB, Florida A&M, Kennesaw and Alabama at home; along with conference foes WKU, Florida Atlantic and South Alabama.
