MOBILE, Ala. - The Troy Trojans softball team will look to halt a three game skid as they travel down I-65 this week for the Sun Belt Conference Championships hosted by South Alabama at Jaguar Field.
The Trojans will be making the trip to Mobile, Ala. for the second time in four days as they lost two games at South Alabama on Saturday. The Trojans lost game one 1-0 and game two 3-2 in 11 innings.
Troy's current three game losing streak dates back to a 3-2 loss to UAB on April 27, making all three losses of the one-run variety
Troy (24-28, 10-13) has earned the sixth seed at the Sun Belt Conference Championships and will take on the three seed North Texas (27-18, 12-9) in the first game of the tournament at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
The Trojans lost two out of three to the Mean Green earlier this season at home. The Mean Green enter the tournament after having the weekend off. In their last action North Texas fell to No.12 Oklahoma at home, 6-1.
Troy is led by junior ace Ashlyn Williams whose 366 strikeouts lead the Trojans and rank in the Top 5 nationally. Williams is 18-21 on the season in 41 appearances with 34 starts and 29 complete games with five shutouts.
Offensively, senior shortstop Kala Moore sets the tone for the Trojans from her leadoff spot. The Verbena, Ala. native leads the Trojans with a .360 average and sits second in the Sun Belt in both hits (64) and stolen bases (31). Moore is nearly perfect in the stolen base category in Sun Belt games, swiping 16 bags in 17 attempts.
The Trojans power threat comes in the form of sophomore Nikki Hollett. The Melbourne, Australia native leads the squad with six home runs, all of them coming in Sun Belt games. Her 23 RBI is third on the team as right fielder Hayden Gann leads Troy with 27 and true freshman Courtney Cherry sits second with 24.

The festivities will begin on Tuesday night with an awards ceremony, home run derby and fireworks.
