SKILLMAN, N.J. - The week continued to be big for the Troy University men's tennis team just a couple of days after winning their first Sun Belt Conference Championships, and earned the team's first bid to the NCAA Tournament. Just days after winning their 20th match of the season, the Trojans find themselves climbing in the latest ITA Tennis poll.
With their victory over then-34th ranked Denver, the Trojans moved up to 51st in the lastest poll, released on Tuesday afternoon. With their latest victory over Denver, the Trojans have now won four matches in a row. That streak is the second-longest of the season, as the Trojans reeled off 11 victories in a row earlier - which ended with a loss to Denver in the championship match of the Sun Belt Shootout at the beginning of April.
Troy (20-4) narrowly missed out on the top 50 as they earned 11.97 points to the 12.34 points earned by the University of South Carolina at 50. The Trojans are 2-3 against teams ranked in the top 75 this season, recording victories over 36th-ranked Denver and 52nd-ranked USC Upstate. They have losses to 18th-ranked Mississippi, 31st-ranked Auburn and 36th-ranked Denver.
With their current ranking, the Trojans have locked themselves into the NCAA Indoor Championships next fall, and will await their fate in the NCAA Tournament next week. The Trojans will find out their opponent and their region on the NCAA Selection Show on Tuesday, May 4.
