NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Sun Belt Conference announced the all-conference teams for tennis after the first day of play in the Sun Belt Conference Championships, and a pair of Trojans made the squad.
The doubles team of Luis Henrique Grangeiro and Mario Rolemberg were named as one of the three doubles teams this season, as they posted a 14-4 mark during the regular season. The won five consecutive matches before the voting took place and were 9-1 in their last 10 matches heading into the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
The duo has not lost a match since March 10 and have been ranked in the region all season. They have posted a season-high six match winning streak, losing back-to-back matches just once when they lost three consecutive matches in February to ranked teams.
In singles play, Grangeiro was one of six players named All-Conference as he posted a 13-5 record in singles competition playing against some of the best competition across the country this season. Entering the Sun Belt Conference Championships, the freshman had won his last two matches.
The freshman lost back-to-back matches just twice this season, and won a season-high seven matches from February 21 until March 7. During the Sun Belt Shootout, Grangeiro played the three number one players from Denver, Florida Atlantic and New Orleans and was ahead in two of the three when the matches were stopped. He actually beat all-conference member Marc Abdelnour of Florida Atlantic in three sets and was one point away from beating all-conference member Yannick Weihs of Denver.
Grangeiro will get another shot at Abdelnour, who defeated him earlier this season in the semifinals of the conference championships Friday afternoon. The Trojans take on Florida Atlantic with a berth in the championship match on the line, beginning at 3 pm in New Orleans.
