Skillman, N.J. - The Troy University men's tennis team reached their highest ranking in school history on Tuesday afternoon, released by the ITA.
The Trojans moved up four spots in the poll, reaching 61st in the rankings which breaks the mark of 62 that they held earlier this season. If the Trojans can hold this ranking throughout the remainder of the year, then they will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Indoor Championships in the fall of 2010.
Troy (17-4) enters the Sun Belt Conference as one of two ranked teams, and will face seventh-seeded WKU in the opening round of the conference tournament in New Orleans later this week.
The only other team from the Sun Belt Conference to be ranked in the ITA poll is the University of Denver, coming in this week at 34th in the country.
Of the Trojans four losses, three have come against ranked teams in this week's poll. The Trojans dropped a match to Denver, 19th-ranked Ole Miss and 37th-ranked Auburn. The only loss to an unranked team came at the hands of Winthrop, which ignited an 11-match winning streak the next day against Lousiana-Lafayette.
The Trojans begin play this week in the conference tournament, and results will be posted on TroyTrojans.com once they become available.
