TROY, Ala. - The Troy Trojans softball team will begin Sun Belt Conference play as they host Middle Tennessee at the Trojan Softball Complex on Wednesday and Thursday.
The Trojans and Blue Raiders are set to meet in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday and a single game beginning at noon on Thursday.
One Trojan will be looking to make history in the series. Junior pitcher Ashlyn Williams will enter Wednesday's contest in a tie for first place on Troy's all-time wins list. One win in the three game series will make Williams the winningest pitcher in Trojan history.
The series will also mark Troy's home opener, as a weekend series scheduled against Evansville on February 12 and 13 was snowed out earlier this season. Troy is 11-5 all-time in home openers.
The Trojans (9-4, 0-0) will enter Wednesday's contest as a very hot offensive team. In there last game against Samford, the Trojans posted nine runs and they currently sit second in the Sun Belt with a .313 team batting average.
Kaitlin Kenney leads the Trojans with a .419 average, the fourth best mark in the Sun Belt. Senior first baseman Rocky Paige is just behind Kenney at .415 and fifth in the Sun Belt. Paige also leads the conference with seven doubles.
The Trojans, who are picked to finish second in the Sun Belt race this season, went 3-1 at the Magic City Classic last weekend, hosted by Samford. Troy defeated the Bulldogs, Alabama State and Nicholls State. Their only loss on the weekend came to tournament champion UAB.
The Blue Raiders (2-3, 0-0), who are picked to finish ninth in the Sun Belt, will come into the series very rested. Middle Tennessee hasn't seen action in nine days, as they last played on February 21. In contrast, the Trojans have played six games since that date.
The Blue Raiders only action thus far this season came at the Phyliss Rafter Memorial hosted by Kennesaw. In that tournament, the Blue Raiders fell to Mercer, Kennesaw and Southern Illinois and defeated Alabama State and Western Illinois.
