Trojans Fall To Winthrop

Troy, Ala. - The 72nd-ranked Troy University men's tennis team lost a heartbreaker to Winthrop University 4-3 Friday night at Lunsford Tennis Complex, just a few days after gaining a national ranking for the first time in eight years.
The Trojans swept through doubles play, with the closest match being match one with the team of Luis Henrique Grangeiro and Mario Rolemberg defeating the Winthrop team of Sergey Belov and Daniel Daudt, 8-5.
Meanwhile, the team of Branko Weber and Xavier Masson defeated the team of Guy Kubi and Nadav Ruppin 8-3, and the team of Anas Rouchdi and Guilherme Sahadi defeated the team of Diego Toledo and Dejon Bivens 8-4 to complete the sweep.
In singles play, Troy (5-3) struggled and won just two matches. Branko Weber defeated Nadav Ruppin 6-4, 6-3 at number two; while d Luis Henrique Grangeiro defeated Sergey Belov 6-4, 6-4 at number one. Aurelien Tave, Anas Rouchdi, and Guilherme Sahadi all lost in straight sets.
The final point to decide the match, came down to Dejon Bivens and Mario Rolemberg. Bivens won the first set 6-3. In the second set, Bivens had three match points with a 6-5 lead to close out Rolemberg, but Rolemburg was able rebound and win the set 7-6. Rolemberg pulled his groin early in the final set that limited his mobility and Bivens was able to captilize with a 6-1victory to give Winthrop the win.
The Trojans return to action Saturday at home against Louisiana-Lafayette at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
