NEW ORLEANS - For her stellar performance in the circle this week, Ashlyn Williams has been named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Williams highlighted the UCF Invitational when she threw a no-hitter against the host Golden Knights in a 1-0 Trojan victory. She defeated UCF ace Ashleigh Cole who has wins against Tennessee and South Carolina this season. Williams was one Trojan error away from tossing a perfect game.
Williams started the week, and her season, with a 15 strikeout performance against North Florida on Tuesday.
Williams closed out her week with a victory against South Carolina on Sunday, in which she gave no earned runs.
Overall for the week, Williams posted a 0.89 ERA, struck out 61 batters in 39.1 innings of work, while walking only eight batters. In her five appearances at the UCF Invitational, Williams only gave up one earned run.
She was joined by FIU's Kasey Barrett as Pitcher of Week. Lindsay Antone of WKU was named Player of the Week.
The Trojans (6-1) will look to build on the early success of their pitching staff and offense when they travel to Kennesaw, Ga. to take on the Kennesaw State Owls in a doubleheader on Tuesday.
The Trojans lead the Sun Belt in team ERA with a 1.42 mark and in team batting with a .325 batting average.
Kennesaw State (4-3) enters Tuesday's twin bill on a three game losing streak.
