JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The snow has come and gone in Troy, and so have the Troy Trojans softball teams' chances of opening the 2010 season at home.
The Trojans had their three game series with Evansville cancelled due to the four inches of snow that Mother Nature dropped on campus Friday, and now they will open their season on Tuesday when they visit North Florida.
The Trojans will travel to Jacksonville, Fla. for an afternoon doubleheader with the Ospreys. First pitch of game one is set for 2 p.m. CT.
The Trojans enter 2010 after posting a 38-19 overall record in 2009 and a 15-8 mark in Sun Belt play. The Trojans finished the 2009 regular season in second place in the Sun Belt standings.
Returning for the Trojans are two NFCA All-Region players in junior pitcher Ashlyn Williams and senior shortstop Kala Moore.
Troy is having to replace Heidi Johnson who became the first ever Trojan to go pro when she signed with the Akron Racers of the National Pro Fastpitch League last summer.
The Trojans enter 2010 with eight newcomers that will have to step in early, a few as starters.
North Florida (1-4) comes into Tuesday's games after opening their season at the Combat Classic hosted by FIU in Miami last weekend.
The Ospreys fell to Southern Illinois, University of Illinois-Chicago and FIU by a total of five runs. They also dropped a 7-0 decision to North Carolina State.
In their sole win, senior Devyn Findley struck out 14 batters while the Ospreys blanked Providence 4-0.
In 2009 North Florida posted a 26-24 record, going 11-9 in A-Sun action, placing them sixth in the conference.
Tuesday's first pitch at the Lady Ospreys Softball Complex is set for 2 p.m. CT and you can find live stats for both games at the above link.
