Trojan Men Pick Up Victory

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Troy University men's tennis team won their season-opening match, defeating Alabama State University 7-0 in the Capital City on Saturday afternoon.
The guys were really anxious and excited to get the season started with a win," Troy assistant tennis coach Irving Morales said. "They worked really hard during the off-season and they are ready to play as we showed today. We have a really cohesive team and we are expecting great things for the upcoming matches."
In doubles play, the Trojans jumped ahead early and were able to get the point by sweeping all three matches from Alabama State (0-1). At number one, the team of Luis Henrique Grangeiro and Mario Rolemberg defeated the team of Dennys Alyeksyeyev and Lex Pierre 8-3; while the team of Branko Weber and Xavier Masson defeated the Alabama State team of Clifford Frazier and Lance Deleston 8-1. At number three doubles, the team of Aurelien Tave and Guilherme Sahadi defeated Joshua Donaldson and Roddrick Ivory, 8-2, to complete the sweep.
Iin singles play, the Trojans lost only nine total points in the six matches, with Weber, Rolemberg and Sahadi picking up 6-0, 6-0 victories. The only players who were challenged in singles play were Luis Henrique Grangeiro at number one (6-1, 6-3) and Aurelien Tave at number three (6-2, 6-2).
The Trojans return to action next Saturday on the road against Tulane.
