The Troy University Cheerleaders arrived in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on July 24th ready for cheerleading camp. The University Cheerleading Association (UCA) was holding the largest camp in the United States. Teams from all over, especially the Southeast, were in attendance. The Troy Cheerleading program has not attended a camp in many years before this year.
We went into the camp with hopes of coming home with new material, friendships and team unity. Instead we came home with a lot more. Both co-ed and the all-girl squad competed throughout the weekend in a fight song, cheer and sideline competition. The teams were to perform their own fight song in the competition.
The co-ed team team and the all-girl squad both came with third place trophies in the fight song competition. The co-ed team also walked away with a third place trophy in the sideline competition and a fourth place trophy in the cheer competition. The all-girl squad came home with a fourth place trophy in sideline and a fifth place trophy in the cheer competition. Throughout the weekend both squads also received superior ribbons in every category that they were judged on.
T-Roy was also at the cheer camp representing the university. He competed against 30 other mascots from all over the country. T-Roy put together skits during the weekend and was in a final camp skit with all the mascots that participated. T-Roy came home with a second place trophy overall.
Troy University also came home with a newcomer award to camp overall trophy.
Cheerleading camp was a success, and it has prepared the Troy University cheer squads for a great year.
Until next time,
Amber Spradley
