TROY, Ala - The Troy Trojans softball team will face the South Alabama Jaguars on Saturday at home to conclude the 2009 regular season. Saturday is also set to honor three seniors on the team for their contributions to Troy softball.
The Trojans and the Jaguars (26-24-1, 10-10 Sun Belt) met earlier this season for on game in Mobile, and Trojans head coach Melanie Davis is hoping the result is just the same.
“We played them very well when we went down to Mobile,” Davis said. “We hit the ball well, and Ashlyn Williams pitched a great game against them.”
Williams tossed a one-hitter against the Jaguars in the first meeting as the Trojans won the game 6-1. She struck out 12 batters in the performance, and the Trojans offense posted 10 hits against three Jaguars pitchers.
Williams currently has 301 strikeouts on the season for the Trojans, and that puts her trailing former Trojan Jocelyn McCallum by just three for the single-season record.
“Ashlyn has accomplished great things as a Trojan, and we're hoping she can grab that feat against the Jaguars this Saturday,” Davis said. “She's on pace to break quite a few records in her career here.”
Saturday before the game the Trojans will honor Heidi Johnson, Felicia Hammer and Allison Moore in senior day ceremonies.
“All three of the seniors have don great things for us,” Davis said. “It seems like only yesterday when Heidi and Felicia came for their official visits, and they have been a huge asset to this team for four years. We were also blessed to have Allison on the team this season. She transferred in and has been a great asset to our pitching, and we will certainly miss all three of them.”
Troy leads the all-time series 4-3, and the two teams will face off in a double-header Saturday beginning at 1 pm.
