Six Golfers Honored for Academic Success

Six Trojan golfers were honored this past week for their academic achievement at the Sun Belt Conference Championships.

Liz Balkcom, Desirae Zine, and Brittany Bassett were named to the Commissioner's List for finishing the 2007-?08 school year with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Danielle Skipper, Zach Portemont, and Jake Brodhead finished on the Academic Honor Roll for finishing with a GPA of at least 3.0

“I really want to push the academic portion of this,” Troy Coach Matt Terry said. “I'm extremely proud of our student athlete's, with student being the main part of that.”

Even though only six of the students were nominated, Terry was extremely proud of his entire team and the work they put into the classroom.

“We'd like to have all the players up their to win this award,” Terry said. “But we're still proud of all that they have done and look forward to more of this in the future.”

Having students honored for their academic achievement has been a big part of Coach Terry's success here at Troy.

During his tenure here at Troy, Coach Terry has had multiple students honored for success in academics, including several Academic All-Americans.

“There is a lot that goes on for these students to be successful in school,” Terry said. “I just want to thank our Academic services. Matt Mayotte and his staff have done a great job with all the work that they do to help our students succeed.”
