The Battle For First Place

LAFAYETTE, La. - The Troy Trojans softball team is back on the road for another Sun Belt Conference series, heading to Louisiana to face the Ragin' Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette in a battle for first place in the conference standings.
“It's a big series for us,” Trojans head coach Melanie Davis said. “It's always a big series, and the way the schedule is set up, we always face them late in the year. It always plays big-time into the numbers and determining who the regular season conference champion will be, as well who will be seeded where in the conference tournament.”
The Ragin' Cajuns (28-10, 10-5) were picked as the favorite to win the league this season after their appearance in the College World Series last season, and Davis said the task of playing ULL is never easy.
“We've got to bring our A-game to ULL,” Davis said. “They are a tough team at home. They have a great group of fans, a beautiful facility and great tradition.”
The Trojans (32-14, 13-5) are looking to get back on a winning note in the Sun Belt Conference after being swept by North Texas last weekend. Davis feels confident in the team and their abilities.
“Our kids are fighters,” Davis said. “They're determined to do their jobs and represent Troy well in the Sun Belt Conference. We're really excited about taking the positives from our Northwestern State double-header and using that for a complete performance this weekend.”
The winner of the series this weekend will take over first place in the Sun Belt Conference. The Trojans remaining Sun Belt schedule concludes with a double-header against South Alabama at home on May 2.
The first two games of the series are set for 1 pm and 3 pm on Saturday afternoon, while the final game of the series is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 1 pm.
