TALLAHASSEE - The Troy Trojans softball team won both games played on Saturday morning in the Florida State Invitational.
"We really would have liked to win all four of our games this weekend, but we saw a lot of good things this weekend as we head into the conference stretch ahead," Trojans head coach Melanie Davis said.
Troy knocked off Bethune-Cookman for the second time in the tournament, 3-2. The Trojans faced Liberty afterwards, and Troy won that game 3-0.
Trojans pitcher Allison Moore took the mound against Liberty. Moore was perfect through five innings, until the Flames knocked their first hit of the day into center field.
Moore pitched the complete game shutout, and only allowed two hits in the contest. Moore struck out five and only walked one batter.
"I thought our pitching was great today," Davis said. "Allison (Moore) did a great job on the mound for us, and we're looking for her to do great things as we enter conference play this week."
The Trojans defense stepped and helped preserve the shutout victory, giving Troy a 3-1 record in the tournament overall.
The Trojans bats were a big part of the success as well. Doubles from Rocky Paige, Tahsa Elmore, Nikki Hollett and Jackie Di Siervi helped keep the Trojans on top. Elmore also added a solo shot home run of the left field wall for the third run of the game.
Troy knocked off Bethune-Cookman in the early game with Ashlyn Williams on the mound. Williams posted eight strikeouts in the game.
The Trojans and Cougars played another tight contest against each other.
The Cougars took Troy to extra innings on Friday before Troy could grab the win, but the Trojans handled things in seven today.
Bethune-Cookman scored a run in the first inning, but Troy responded with two in the second.
The Cougars tied things up in the third until the Trojans took their final lead of the game in the fifth inning.
Hayden Gann led the Trojans at the plate with a double.
Troy begins conference play on Tuesday at Middle Tennessee.
