Troy Drops Rattlers on Hard Courts

TROY, Ala. ? After two postponements during the week and a three hour delay on Sunday, the Troy University tennis team finally took to the hard courts and came out victorious.
In a match that was scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., the Trojans walked off the courts with a 5-2 win over the Florida A&M Rattlers just after 8 p.m. at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
The Rattlers were delayed traveling to Troy and the match didn't begin until 4 p.m. and lasted four hours.
This was the third time in as many years the Trojans and Rattlers have faced each other, but was the first time in those three years the Trojans (3-9) came out on top. In the previous two years the Rattlers won by a score of 4-3 each time.
Troy started the match off on the right foot by rallying back to from losing the first doubles match to win the next two and the point.
The Trojan duo of Bastian Maucher and Benjamin Chomette fell to Florida A&M's A. Padgainii and J. Cameron, 8-5, at number two.
The Trojans responded by winning number one and three doubles to take the doubles point.
Mario Silva and Branko Weber got the Trojans rolling by defeating S. Happy and M. Moore, 8-4. Next, the team of Aurelien Tave and Xavier Masson defeated P. Paige and D. Jackson, 8-5, to give the Trojans the point.
Needing to only split the six singles matches, the Trojans were able to win four, including the first three to complete the 5-2 victory.
Troy's freshman Tave got the singles matches started in fine fashion for the Trojans as he defeated Padgainii at number one singles in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
The Trojans also won the next two matches to clinch the win. At number five, Masson beat the Rattlers' Paige, 6-4, 6-4.
Guilherme Sahadi clinched the match for Troy at number six singles by battling back from dropping the first set and winning a three set match, 5-7, 6-0, 7-6.
With the Trojans up 4-0, and the match in hand, the Rattlers won two of the final three matches, with all going to deciding sets.
At number two, Happy defeated Troy's Weber, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3. The Trojans' Silva beat Jackson, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, at number four. Moore defeated Chomette, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, to close out the match.
The Trojans will return to the courts tomorrow when they will take on Southeastern Louisiana in Mobile, Ala. The match was originally scheduled for last Wednesday but was postponed to Friday due to bad weather. When the rain stuck around through Friday, the match was moved to Monday.
