Trojan Claim Shutout Victory

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Troy University men's tennis team returned to the courts after a 16-day layoff, recording a 7-0 shutout of the University of Missouri-Kansas City Thursday morning.
Troy (2-7) ended a three-match losing streak, playing their first match since a March 3 road match at Jacksonville State. The Trojans had two matches scheduled last week, during Spring Break, but both were lost to rain on the road.
The Trojans started the day off quickly, sweeping the doubles action led by the number one team of Mario Silva and Branko Weber. The duo defeated the Kangaroos team of Bret Berryman and Patrick Smith 8-2; setting the stage for a win by either the two or three team to give the Trojans the point.
Troy was able to take a 1-0 lead overall in the match when the number three team of Guilherme Sahadi and Aurelien Tave defeated Missouri-Kansas City's Dennis Schwarz and Erwin Quintanilla, 8-5. After the match was decided, the number two team of Bastain Maucher and Benjamin Chomette claimed an 8-5 victory over the Kangaroos team of Gustavo Guerin and Nick Hays to complete the sweep.
Singles play went the Trojans way early on, claiming a 6-1, 6-0 victory by Chomette at number four singles to take a 2-0 overall lead in the match. Needing just two more points to clinch the match, the Trojans won at number six singles when Maucher defeated Quintanilla 6-2, 6-3; setting the stage for the next point scored by the Trojans ending the three-match losing streak.
The streak was ended when Silva claimed a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Guerin at number three singles to give Troy an insurmountable lead in the match. The final three matches of the day all went Troy's way, leading to the shutout victory.
Troy returns to action Friday morning against Drake University, with the match beginning at 10 am.
