Trojans Eager to Get Back to Action
3/18/2009 5:00:00 AM | Tennis
The Troy University women's and men's tennis teams will go their separate ways this weekend as both hit the road for multiple matches.
Neither team has seen action since they both took on Jacksonville State on March 3rd, more than two weeks ago.
Each team will play three matches this weekend.
The women will head south to Hattiesburg, Miss. to take on Lamar, West Virginia, and Southern Miss.
Meanwhile, the men will travel north to Wilmington, NC to compete against Missouri-Kansas City, Drake, and UNC-Wilmington.
The women will look to push their 4-5 record over the .500 mark, but will have to do so without senior Annabelle Bares who will have to sit out with an arm injury.
All five of the Trojans' losses have come against ranked teams.
The first two coming on back-to-back days against #44 Ole Miss and #52 Mississippi State. Two weeks later, the Troy fell to ranked opponents on back-to-back days once again, this time to #49 Florida International and #14 Florida. The Trojans also dropped a match to in-state opponent #45 Auburn.
The story has been much the same for the men's team as they have posted a 1-7 record with five of the losses coming against ranked teams.
The Trojans have fallen to #5 Ole Miss, #19 South Carolina, #25 Alabama, #72 USC-Upstate, and #75 Southern Miss. Two of these losses were by a score of 4-3.
The Trojans will look to reverse their fortune this weekend, but will have to beat some tough opponents to do so.
The host team, UNC-Wilmington, moved into the national rankings this week and is currently in the #71 slot with a 9-3 record.
