LAFAYETTE, La. - The Troy University men's tennis program was ready to hit the hardcourts on Thursday afternoon for the first time in 10 days, but Mother Nature didn't cooperate in those plans.
The Trojans match with Louisiana-Lafayette was rained out Thursday afternoon, meaning the Trojans would be off for another two days before their next competition. Troy is on the road to face Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas on Saturday afternoon if the weather cooperates. Currently there is a 30 percent chance of rain on Friday and Saturday in Beaumont. The Trojans last played March 3 on the road against Jacksonville State University.
If the Trojans cannot play this weekend, their next match will be Thursday, March 19 in Wilmington, North Carolina against Missouri-Kansas City.
Meanwhile, on the women's side of the nets, the Trojans have been forced to cancel four consecutive matches due to an illness that has affected almost 75 percent of the squad.
Troy was forced to cancel matches with Georgia State (Friday, March 6) and Indiana State (Monday, March 9) when the team was affected by illness. Head coach Eric Hayes was then forced to cancel two more matches this week because the team has not gotten any better. The Trojans' matches with North Texas (Thursday, March 12) and UT-Arlington (Sunday, March 15).
The women return to action Friday, March 20 in the Southern Miss Spring Tournament in Hattiesburg.
