Troy Women's Tennis Drops Pair of Matches on Mississippi Swing

The Troy women's tennis team suffered a pair of losses during a weekend trip through the state of Mississippi. The Trojans lost to Ole Miss 7-0 on Friday before dropping a close 4-3 decision to Mississippi State on Saturday.
The Trojans fell to 2-2 on the year with the losses. The squad will return to action next weekend with a single match against the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.
Below are recaps of the two matches this weekend.
Ole Miss 7, Troy 0
OXFORD, Miss. ? The Trojans fell behind the Rebels (1-2) early, dropping all three doubles sets. Ole Miss jumped out to an early lead with 8-1 wins at No. 1 and 3 doubles. The Rebels also picked up an 8-3 win at No. 3.
In individual play, Troy senior Annabelle Bares fell to freshman Kristi Boxx 7-6(1), 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Mirte De Bakker tried to keep Troy's hopes alive at No. 3 singles but dropped a second set tie-breaker to sophomore Laura van de Stroet, falling 6-3, 7-6(3).
The Rebels clinched the match when sophomore Karen Nijssen downed Troy senior Rawia Elsisi in three sets in the No. 1 singles spot. Nijssen won the first set 7-5 but Elsisi bounced back to take the second 6-2. Nijssen took the match with a 6-2 victory in the final set.

STARKVILLE, Miss. ? In what was a back-and-forth battle all day, the Trojans dropped a three-set thriller in the final singles match of the day to fall 4-3 to unbeaten Mississippi State (4-0).
MSU senior Elna de Villiers delivered the match-clinching victory with a three-set (4-6, 6-3, 6-3) win over De Bakker. With the score tied at 3-3 and reaching the fourth hour of the match, de Villiers and De Bakker fought off rallies from each opponent before de Villiers picked up the victory after an hour and fifteen minute battle.
The day started with some early drama in doubles play. Troy jumped to an early lead in all three sets, but MSU came back in two of the three to earn the point.
MSU's Radka Ferancova and Daniela Juskova rebounded from a 3-2 deficit for an 8-6 triumph over Troy's Annabelle Bares and Gabriella Viega at position No. 3. Troy's Elsisi and Leonie Guijt evened doubles play by handing the MSU tandem of Natalia Mayuk and Olesya Tsigvintseva their first loss of the season, 8-5.
The doubles point came down to the final match with MSU's Banikova and de Villiers downing Troy's De Bakker and Stephanie Vierra in a marathon, 9-7.
MSU pushed its lead to 2-0 when junior Valeriya Makarycheva picked up a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Vierra. That lead grew to 3-0 when Troy's Bares retired due to sickness, down 6-3, 5-2 to Radka Ferancova.
Despite the deficit, the Trojans stormed back to knot the match at 3-3 with victories in matches in the Nos. 1, 4 and 6 positions.
Elsisi got the Trojans going by downing Tsigvintseva in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5. Guijt followed suit with a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Mayuk at No. 4 before Caroline Joauanin won a hard-fought three-set match over Juskova, 6-1, 0-6, 6-4.
