Trojans Fall to South Alabama on Hard Courts

TROY, Ala. - The Trojans men's tennis team couldn't overcome a disappointing start and dropped their match against 74th ranked South Alabama 6-1 on Thursday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
The Trojans (1-6) lost the doubles point 2-1, but had plenty of chances to reverse that outcome.
At number one, Sergio Ramirez and Leo Dominguez of South Alabama (5-5) defeated Branko Weber and Mario Silva of Troy 8-2.
In the number three match, Aurelien Tave and Guilherme Sahadi of Troy were up 7-6 with match point and couldn't convert. They eventually fell to the Jaguar's duo of Hanno Bartsch and Dauw Kruger 9-7.
At number two doubles, Troy's Benjamin Chomette and Bastian Maucher were up 7-4 with match point and had to battle South Alabama's Romain Bocaert and Marek Sramek to a tiebreak. In the end Chomette and Maucher won 9-8 (9-7).
In singles matches, the Trojans found themselves in some very close sets, but in the end couldn't deliver the knockout blows.
The Trojans sole singles win came at number four singles, as Silva defeated Dominguez in straight sets 6-2, 7-6.
At number one singles, Sramek of South Alabama defeated Troy freshman Tave 6-1, 6-4.
The Jaguars' Bocaert defeated Troy's Chomette at number three singles in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
Ramirez of South Alabama defeated the Trojans' Weber at number two singles 7-6, 6-3.
Troy's Maucher also found himself in a tiebreaker. Unfortunately, Maucher also couldn't come out on top, and fell to South Alabama's Aaron Krisan 6-4, 7-6.
The only three set match of the day came at number six singles. The Jaguars' Bartsch defeated Troy's Sahadi 6-4 in the first set. Sahadi was able to battle back and captured the second set 2-6, but eventually fell by a final of 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
The Trojans will next take to the courts on Tuesday as they travel to Jacksonville, Ala. to take on Jacksonville State.
