USTA Tennis Classic of Troy Begins

All three Trojans participating in the qualifying rounds of The USTA Tennis Classic of Troy were eliminated from Sunday's qualifying round at the Lunsford Tennis Complex in Troy.
Lauren Simpson faced Alexandra Cercone and fell 6-4, 6-1.
Rosaura Ramirez-Vega fell to third seeded Alison Riske 6-0, 6-1. Riske is ranked 322nd worldwide.
Leonie Guijt fell against Natalia Ryzhonkova 6-4, 6-0. Ryzhonkove of Russia is ranked 396th in the world rankings.
All three were competing in the tournament as wild card selections.
Troy head tennis coach Eric Hayes said he is proud of the efforts his players showed on the courts Sunday, and he believes that facing professional competition only makes his players better.
“It's good for them to get the experience of playing against tough competition,” Hayes said. “Anytime you can play someone like they faced today it can only help you make your game better. The tournament is a great experience for them to get to be a part of, and we are very fortunate to have something like that in Troy.”
Qualifying will continue on Monday at the complex at 9 a.m.
