Trojans Close Out Play at UGA

ATHENS, Ga. - The Troy women's tennis program wrapped up play in the UGA Winter Classic this afternoon, claiming four victories in the final day of action.
In singles play, Rawia Elsisi claimed a victory at the top spot with a 6-2, 7-6 (3) victory over Kansas State's Antea Huljev; while Leonie Guijt claimed a victory at number four over Katerina Kudlackova 6-4, 6-2.
In the other three singles matches (only five were played on the final day), Annabelle Bares dropped a heartbreaking three-set match to Kansas State's Mariya Slupska 5-7, 6-1, 6-2; while Mirte De Bakker also dropped a three-set match to Kansas State's Nina Sertic 1-6, 7-6 (5), 6-1. In the final singles match of the day, Vika Lukinova fell to Kansas State's Natasha Viera 6-2, 7-5.
In doubles action, Troy took two-of-three matches from the defending NAIA national champion Lady Senators of Auburn-Montgomery. The teams of De Bakker and Stephanie Viera (number two) and Bares and Gabriella Viega (number three) picked up identical 8-5 victories.
Troy opens regular season play against USC Upstate at the Lunsford Tennis Complex on Friday, January 30 at 2:30 pm.
