Julie Ditty is now the all-time record holder for USTA titles in the American Pro Circuit. Ditty is coming to play in the USTA Classic of Troy next week.
Ditty is 29 years old and a native of Ashland, Kentucky. She set the USTA Pro Circuit record at the ColemanVision Tennis Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. She set the record by winning her 32nd USTA match.
"I knew before Albuquerque that I could break it," Ditty said. "It's a good feeling, especially being from the U.S."
Ditty recently broke into the top 100 world rankings. She is currently ranked 98th in singles play, down nine spots from her career high ranking of 89th back in MArch of this year.
Ditty plays left handed with a double-handed backhand, and she is excited about coming back to Troy for The Classic.
"That tournament is awesome," Ditty said. "Eric (Hayes) does a really good job with that. It's nice being on a college campus again. I like the small town atmosphere because I'm from a small town."
Ditty is a college graduate from Vanderbilt. She finished her early childhood education degree back in 2001, and she's excited about how the Commodores are doing in football this season as well.
"They weren't very good when I was there," Ditty said. "I'm glad they are doing well."
Ditty, who has played tennis most of her life, finished with a ranking of 297 in 2006. She has worked her way to the top 100 in just two years.
She will look to add another tournament victory to her record-setting USTA career when she comes to Troy on September 28th.
