Troy Falls on the Road to Georgia State

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Troy University Trojans fell 5-2 to Georgia State University in non-conference tennis action Wednesday afternoon.
Georgia State captured the doubles point, winning at number two and number three on the afternoon; narrowly winning both matches in a tiebreak. The Panthers' team of Dariana Kozmina and Kiara Powell defeated Troy's Mirte De Bakker and Leonie Guijt 9-7; meanwhile the number three team of Rachel Malina and Kiera Strickland defeated Troy's Carolina Jounia and Stephanie Vieria 9-7 to clinch the doubles point.
The Trojans did win at number one when the team of Annabelle Bares and Rawia El Sisi defeated Georgia State's Martina Nitkova and Katerina Gresova 8-6.
In singles play, the Trojans won their two matches at four and six and narrowly missed at two and three. Vieria claimed a hard-fought three-set victory at number four over Georgia State's Malina after dropping the first set. After fighting back to force a third set, Vieria won the match 5-7, 6-2, 6-3. At number six, Arres Marine claimed a straight set victory over Georgia State's Strickland; 6-1, 6-3.
The Trojans missed, narrowly, at number two when Bares dropped a three-set heartbreaker in a pro set, while De Bakker lost in straight sets just losing serve once in both sets.
Troy returns to action Saturday in the regular season finale against Middle Tennessee State University at the Lunsford Tennis Center on the campus of Troy University.
