Trojan Women Fall, Men Victorious

TROY, Ala. - The Troy University tennis programs hit the court Sunday morning, the women falling to conference foe Louisiana-Lafayette and the men defeating non-conference foe Lamar University.
The Troy (4-7, 1-1 SBC) women lost to the Ragin' Cajuns 4-3, but had their chances to win the match. Louisiana-Lafayette jumped on top in the match, claiming the doubles point when the team of Julie Mazinova and Mia Gordon defeated Troy's Stephanie Vieria and Carolina Jounia, 8-6, at number three doubles - the last doubles match to be completed on the day.
In the previous two doubles matches, ULL won at number two with the team of Myrthe Molenveld and Angela Dangond defeating Troy's Mirte De Bakker and Leonie Guijt 8-4. The match went to a third doubles match to claim the point when Troy's Rawia El Sisi and Annabelle Bares defeated Kim Van Der Horst and Briggitt Marcovich, 8-5, to even the match total.
After trailing heading into singles play, the Trojans fell behind 3-0 before registering their first victory of the day. Guijt claimed the first point for Troy at number six singles by defeating Gordon in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. The Trojans continued to battle back, forcing the overall score to 3-2 when Bares claimed a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Van Der Horst at number two singles.
With just two matches left, the Trojans needed a victory at either number four or number one singles to continue the match. They got the victory that was needed at number four singles when Vieria defeated Dangond in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-4; forcing the deciding match to the number one position. After dropping the first set, Troy's El Sisi battle back to win the second before eventually falling 7-5, 2-6, 7-5.

Meanwhile, Troy (4-6) bounced back from a loss at South Alabama on Friday to defeat visiting Lamar 5-2 in non-conference tennis action Saturday morning.
The Trojans jumped out early in the match, claiming the doubles point when the number two team of Bastain Maucher and Andrey Morozov defeated Lamar's Diego Snyder and Allan Gomes, 8-4. The two teams split the first two doubles matches of the day, with the Trojans winning at number three and Lamar winning at the number one position over Benjamin Chomette and Mario Silva, 8-6.
Leading 1-0, Troy dropped the first two matches in singles play to fall behind 2-1 with just four matches left on the docket. Edwin van Aerts evened the score for the Trojans with a straight-set victory at number six over Lamar's Andres Medina; 6-1, 6-3. The Trojans took a 3-2 advantage later in the day when Maucher claimed a straight-set victory over Lamar's Gomes; 7-6, 6-3.
Troy claimed the victory when Chomette redeemed himself in singles play, winning over Lamar's Maciej Boqusz; 6-3, 7-6. The exclamation point on the match came when Morozov claimed a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Lamar's Nils Iwdal.
The Trojans return to action Saturday, March 15 at Tennessee Tech.
