Troy Faces USA On The Hardcourts

MOBILE, Ala. - The Troy University men's tennis team will look to rebound from a disappointing loss at Florida A&M University Wednesday afternoon, hitting the road to face the defending Sun Belt Conference champions, the University of South Alabama Friday afternoon.
Troy (3-5) had their chances against Florida A&M Wednesday, winning the doubles point by sweeping all three doubles matches against the Rattlers. Benjamin Chomette and Mario Silva at number one, Bastain Maucher and Andrey Morozov at number two, and Dai Edwards-Evans and Guilherme Sahadi won easily to give the Trojans the point.
Unfortunately, Florida A&M (6-2) won four of six singles matches to take the overall victory.
Edwin van Aerts took the court first for the Trojans at number six, falling to Paul Paige 6-2, 6-2 to even the match at 1-1. The Rattlers took a 2-1 overall lead when Artom Podgainii defeated Silva in straight sets; 7-5, 6-2. The Trojans were able to tie the match 2-2 when Maucher swept Maurice Wamukawa 7-5, 6-2 at number five. However, the two teams split the next two matches, leaving Chomette and Clifford Malivert to battle the match out at number one singles. After dropping the first set, Chomette came back to win the second set before falling 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 to give Florida A&M the victory.
Now the Trojans set their sights toward the University of South Alabama Friday afternoon. The match is set to start at 1:30 pm at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts. The Jaguars (4-6) are in the midst of back-to-back victories over 72nd-ranked Nebraska and Southeastern Louisiana.
