Trojan Women Down Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Troy University women's tennis team waited nearly 20 hours before completing their 4-1 victory over the University of Southern Mississippi Sunday morning, their fourth consecutive victory.
Troy (8-7, 2-1 Sun Belt) has won seven of their last eight matches with the victory over Southern Miss.
The Trojans captured the doubles point the old-fashioned way, by sweeping all three matches. Annabelle Bares and Rawia El Sisi defeated USM's Stephanie Dellacana and Brittany Serrett 8-4 at number one; while their teammates Mirte De Bakker and Leonie Guijt defeated USM's Sherry Price and Lauren Gutterman 8-4 at number two. The final match of the day was won by the Trojans' team of Stephanie Vieria and Carolina Jounia at number three over USM's Alli Brackett and Zoe Lee, 8-6.
Troy took a 2-0 lead over Southern Miss (7-4) when El Sisi claimed a 6-0, 6-4 victory at the number one position, before USM was able to close the gap to 2-1 when Gutterman defeated Troy's Jounia 6-2, 7-6 at number six.
The final two matches of the morning went to the Trojans, with Guijt claiming a 6-3, 6-4 victory over USM's Lee at number five. The final match of the day, and the clinching victory for the Trojans, was won by Bares at number two over USM's Serrett 6-0, 4-6, 6-2.
The Trojans return to action Thursday, April 3 at 1 pm in Mobile, facing 55th-ranked South Alabama. The Trojans will be looking for their fifth consecutive victory in the match, and will be taking on their seventh ranked opponent of the season.
