Trojans Score Two in 8th to Seal Sweep

MONROE, La. ? Troy needed extra innings, but they were able to scoot two runs across the plate in the top of the eighth inning to retake the lead and defeat ULM 4-2 and sweep the three-game Sun Belt Conference set.

Kala Moore led off the eighth inning with an infield single and stole second base. She moved to third on a wild pitch by Kandace Causey and scored on a passed ball giving Troy a 3-2 lead.

Kenney picked up her second walk and was sacrificed to second by Hughes. After a Heidi Johnson groundout moved pinch runner Anna Tew to third base, Davis singled to left centerfield to add an insurance run and make the score 4-2.

Ashlyn Williams (now 14-7) retired the side in the bottom of the eighth to end the game.

The game went to extra innings after Troy's Williams got herself into trouble in the seventh inning when she got herself into a bases loaded situation and walked Brianna Love to plate one run and then surrendered a sacrifice fly to tie the game 2-2.

She tossed her 15^th complete game, striking out nine and walking three. She allowed two earned runs on five hits.

Courtney Davis picked up her team-leading 22^nd RBI when she plated Kaitlin Kenney with a first inning single to give the Trojans an early 1-0 lead.

Davis finished the day 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. Four other Trojans added hits.

Heidi Johnson led off the fourth inning with a walk, and advanced all the way to third after stealing second and watching the throw from catcher Christy McDannell sail into centerfield.

Jessica Lyle picked up an RBI on a suicide squeeze that scored Johnson making the score 2-0.

Troy next faces Florida International in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series at home. They will play a doubleheader on Friday and a single game on Saturday.

First pitch for Friday's games is set for 4 pm. Admission to all home softball games is free.
