Trojans Push No. 10 Tigers to Limit, Fall 7-6

To start the 11th inning Tayl'r Hollis grounded back to pitcher Ashlyn Williams who tossed to first base for the first out, but the next batter Killian Roessner doubled into the left centerfield gap.

With the bases loaded, LSU's leading hitter who didn't start due to a hand injury, senior Shannon Stein pinch hit for Jessica Mouse and lined an 0-2 pitch into leftfield to score Roessner and defeat the Trojans in 11 innings, 7-6.
Troy (14-12) sent eight batters to the plate in the first inning and got things started quickly with a leadoff walk to Kaitlin Kenney that was followed by two singles one each from Heidi Johnson and Jessica Lyle.
Clean-up hitter Courtney Davis picked up her 13th RBI next with a sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored Kenney giving
Rocky Paige broke things open next with an RBI double to left centerfield that scored Johnson, who had advanced to third on the sacrifice fly, and Lyle from first base giving
Paige was 1-for-5 on the game with two RBI's. She has driven in six runs in Troy's last three games.
Trojan hurler Ashlyn Williams got herself in a bit of a jam in the LSU half of the second inning after she hit Quinlan Duhon and walked Jessica Mouse. Number nine hitter Ashley Applegate singled to center but Johnson gunned down Duhon at home for the third out.
The assist was Johnson's sixth outfield assist of the season.
LSU (20-4) came out firing in the third with back-to-back singles from Dee Dee Henderson and the centerfielder
Designated player Killian Roessner followed up Hollis' hit with a base hit of her own, as she plated the shortstop Hollis just ahead of a throw from Johnson to tie the game at three.
Next, Duhon avenged Johnson's play at the plate with a double right over the glove of the Trojan centerfielder to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead.

LSU came right back in the bottom portion of the sixth inning putting runners on the corners with just one out. The leftfielder Mitchell capitalized driving Williams' offering into right field to plate the tying run.
After Hollis fouled out to Ely at third base, the Trojans intentionally walked Roessner to load the bases.
On a 3-1 pitch, Williams got Duhon to foul out to catcher Felicia Hammer to end the threat and the sixth inning.
Cody Trahan, who entered for LSU to pitch with two-outs in the sixth inning and struck out Johnson, sat the Trojans down 1-2-3 in the seventh but Williams was able to come back for

Troy coach Melanie Davis then called for the second and third intentional walks of the night putting the shortstop Hollis and Roessner on base to set up a force out at any base.
The coaching move paid off as Williams got Duhon to pop out to Kenney in leftfield to end the inning and send the game to the ninth inning.
Trahan again sat the Trojans down in order ending the Troy half of the ninth inning and placing the Trojans in another back-against-the-wall situation.
Facing the bottom of the LSU order Williams again responded, inducing a groundout, a line out and then Applegate was called out after the ball touched her and she was outside the batters box sending the game to the 10th inning.
Lyle led-off the top of the 10th inning with a single to right field, the first hit off Trahan for the Trojans. A double-play would erase Lyle's hit as
Lyle, Johnson and Hughes all had two hits for Troy.
Trahan (5.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 9 K; now 7-1) picked up the victory in relief for the Tigers.
The Tiger half of the tenth would be Williams' second 1-2-3 frame as she sat the LSU batters down in order to force an 11th frame.
