Troy Pitches Past FSU, Falls to Southern Miss

The Trojans then fell to Southern Miss 9-4 on Saturday in their second game.
Williams (1-1) struck out 10 with zero walks against Florida State, tossing her first career complete game. She allowed the Seminoles' only run in the seventh inning.
Troy got their offense started early plating two runs in the top of the first inning with a Kala Moore single to lead off the game.
The Trojans would then capitalize on a pair of early FSU miscues when Hillary Hughes reached based on an error as Moore advanced to second and then third.

Williams sat the Seminoles down in order in both the first and second innings, but a pair of errors and a hit put her in a tight situation in the third inning.
After Kristie McConn reached base on an error by Hughes and was sacrificed over to second base, Kaitlin Kenney lost a ball in the sun in left field. This allowed McConn to move to third base and Brittany Joseph to reach second base.
FSU would follow up the error with an infield single, giving them the bases loaded with only one out.
Facing a bases loaded, one out situation, the freshman would settle down striking out Monica Montez and inducing a ground ball fielders choice to Jessica Gilmore to end the inning.
Williams allowed only one base runner an inning until the Seminoles plated their lone run in the seventh.
Davis had Troy's only RBI of the game. She finished the day 1-for-2 with a walk. Moore, Johnson and Kenney also had hits.
Southern Miss scored four runs in the bottom of the first and the Trojans were never able to catch back up as they fell 9-4 in the consolation game of the FSU Early Bird Tournament.
The Trojans (1-3) cut the lead to 4-3 in the top of the fifth, but Southern Miss answered back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
