BOTETOURT, Va. ? Courtney Davis had three home runs on the day as her Troy Trojans split on the final day of the Hokies United Memorial Tournament hosted by Virginia Tech at the Botetourt Softball Complex.
Davis blasted two home runs against Rider to boost the Trojans (8-5) to a 10-1 victory in six innings. She also belted a two-run shot against Winthrop to score Troy's only runs in a 4-2 loss.
Davis finished Sunday 4-for-6 with three home runs, six runs batted in and three runs scored. She also doubled.
Heidi Johnson and Jessica Lyle also had two RBI's each against Rider. Felicia Hammer and Monica Hatcher both also knocked in runs.
Cassie Lassiter (now 1-0) got her first victory of the season for Troy against Rider. She pitched all six innings, scatter five hits with one run allowed. She struck out two.
Troy struggled in game one against Winthrop recording only three hits, two off the bat of Johnson and Davis' two-run homer.
Ashlyn Williams (now 7-2) was charged with the loss for Troy against the Eagles following a five inning, 11 hit, three earned run performance. She struck out four Winthrop batters and walked none.
Lassiter tossed a scoreless inning of relief against Winthrop allowing one hit.
Johnson finished game one 2-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base, her third. Davis was 1-for-3 with the home run and two runs batted in.
Troy plays next on Wednesday in Tallahassee, Fla. against Florida State. The teams will play a double-header beginning at 3 pm with the second game scheduled for 5 pm.
