Trojans Move Up To 7th at North Texas Classic

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico ? The Troy University men's golf team shot a final round 297 to move up one spot in the final standings at the GADO North Texas Classic played at the 6,853-yard, par-72 Flamingos Golf Club in Puerto Vallarta.
The Trojans were led by junior Michael McGrady, who closed with a 71 to finish in ninth place with a three-round total of 214, two shots under par. McGrady finished seven strokes behind tournament winner Kyle Nicolson of Cal State-Northridge, who shot a final round 67 to win by two shots over Jose Toldeo of New Orleans.
Behind McGrady, junior West Parker (Enterprise, Ala.) finished in a tie for 21st at five-over par 221. Junior Jay Harris (Killen, Ala.) closed with a 74 to finish at six over par 222, tied for 23rd.
Senior Jordy Hayden (Livingston, Ala.) struggled to an 86 in the final round, slipping to a tie for 59th at 19-over 235. Junior Justin Eaves (Louisville, Miss.) closed with his best round of the weekend, a 78, to finish 65th with a 22-over 238.
Troy finished fourth among the six Sun Belt schools in the tournament, downing host North Texas by one shot and UALR by 10. UL Lafayette earned the tournament's team title, finishing at 16-under par for the event to win by 22 shots over Cal State-Northridge (870). UNO finished third (872) followed by Southeastern Louisiana (873), Middle Tennessee (876), Colorado State (878) and Troy (884).
North Texas led the second half of the field with an 885 followed by Washington (886), Missouri (894), UALR (894), Houston (899), Ball State (916) and Eastern Illinois (935).
The Trojans will return to action Feb. 28-March 2 at the Dick Witcoff/USF Invitational in Tampa, Fla.
