BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ? The Troy Trojan softball team has been named the champion of the 2008 Bulldog Bash at Samford University due to the championship game being cancelled due to inclement weather.
Troy (6-3) had been scheduled to face Louisville in the championship at 1 pm. The Trojans compiled a 4-0 record in the tournament, defeating each participating team including two victories over host Samford.
Head coach Melanie Davis is happy with the way her team performed over the course of the whole weekend.
“I couldn't be more pleased with the way our team fought and came from behind in two of the victories. Specifically the extra inning come-from-behind win over Louisville was a big one for our program,” she said.
Davis couldn't pinpoint one player who keyed the Trojans' success over the weekend but was quick to point to the team.
“Too many players played a huge part for us. We have been able to utilize all 18 players in various roles.
“Our kids are doing a great job in different roles. This championship is a product of a total team effort,” Davis said.
Troy next heads north to Salem, Virginia to participate in the Hokies United Memorial Tournament. The Trojans jumpstart play in Virginia on Friday at noon eastern when they face St. Joseph's.
