Troy Opens Bulldog Bash with Two Wins

The Trojans (4-3) picked up their third consecutive win in the night cap, dropping Samford 6-3.
Troy got the scoring started early against North Florida with Hammer's two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning. The homer was the first for Hammer and the Trojans in 2008 and it gave
UNF's Caroline Torre would put the Osprey on the board with a solo shot in the top of the third, but Troy answered right back in the bottom half when Jessica Lyle doubled in Hillary Hughes to give the Trojans a 3-1 lead.
Lyle finished the game 2-for-3 with two doubles and a RBI. Hughes and Hammer both also chipped in two hits.
North Florida's biggest threat came in the fifth inning when Kacie McCloud led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and then to third base on a groundout to second base.
Williams walked the next batter, but fielded a bouncer back to the circle and threw the runner out at first base to end the inning.
Williams (7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 5 K, 1 BB) picked up her third victory of the season in her fourth complete game.
In their second contest of the day the Trojans would come back from a 3-0 deficit to cut the lead to 3-2 in the fourth when Hughes doubled, scoring Kala Moore. Two batters later, Hughes came around to score on an error.
The next inning Hughes plated three of her teammates on a bases clearing RBI double. She would be thrown out trying to advance to third.

The Bulldogs scored on a sacrifice fly in the first, a passed ball in the second inning and a solo home run by Aaren Fisher in the third inning.
Rocky Paige started in the circle for the Trojans. She allowed three runs on five hits in two and two-thirds innings of work.
Paige was relieved by Williams (4.1 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 3 K), who picked up her second victory of the day and fourth of the season. She boosted her record to 4-1.
Hughes finished the game 2-for-4 with four runs batted in.
